Aftermath/Interscope Sued For Unpaid Eminem Royalties

Two management companies affiliated with Eminem have reportedly sued Aftermath/Interscope Records, Universal Music Group Recordings and ARY Inc for failing to pay royalties owed from digital downloads of the rapper's music.

According to Billboard, The Bass Brothers' FBT Productions and Joel Martin's Em2M claim, in a lawsuit they filed in Los Angeles federal court on Monday (May 21), that the aforementioned labels owe them 50% from downloads and master ringtones.

The companies claim they were underpaid by more than $650,000 from 2002-2005 since they did not receive 50% of the net receipts from the digital downloads.

FBT and Em2M are seeking a court order confirming their right to 50% of money earned from digital downloads and ringtone sales, as well as compensation for lost revenue.

Eminem is not named in the lawsuit.

MIMS Sued For $7.5 Mil For Concert No-Show, Woman Blames Rapper's "Discriminatory Attitude"

According to the New York Post, Marquitta Blair filed a lawsuit in Rockland County, N.Y this week claiming that MIMS (born Shawn Mims) was a no-show at Club Eugene on April 5 because she's a woman and he has a "discriminatory attitude" towards women.

In the suit, Blair quotes MIMS' misogynistic lyrics to prove her case and says the New York bred rapper "has promoted and traded upon a pattern of conduct involving the belittlement and degradation of females as 'bitches' and 'hoes.'"

Blair claims that she sent MIMS $2,500 down payment through his agent and the rapper was slated to perform a 10-minute set for $10,000.

MIMS and his camp have yet to comment on the suit.

Young Jeezy Arrested After Strip Club Argument

An argument at a suburban Atlanta strip club netted a disorderly conduct charge for rapper Young Jeezy and some friends last Thursday, authorities said.

The rapper, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, was arrested after the incident at the strip club in Clarkston, said DeKalb County police spokesman Michael Payne.

"Evidently there was some type of altercation in the club -- someone didn't want to leave," Payne said. "It turns out one of the people in the group was Jay Jenkins or Young Jeezy. Evidently he was there with his sister and some friends."

Payne said off-duty police officers from the nearby community of Pine Lake were handling security at the club, and called for backup from the county police.

He said Jenkins and two male friends were booked on disorderly conduct charges at the DeKalb jail and released. He said Jenkins' sister was given a citation for disorderly conduct but wasn't booked at the jail. "There was no physical confrontation. It was all verbal and basically being belligerent," Payne said.

DeKalb County authorities couldn't immediately provide the status of the charges.

New Kanye Album Coming Sooner Than Expected

Kanye West's forthcoming album, "Graduation," is coming sooner than expected. The album, originally due in September, has been pushed slightly ahead to a late August release, according to Def Jam.

West leaked the news through a recently released, 25-track Internet mixtape called "Can't Tell Me Nothing," which features him rapping over such intriguing samples as Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" and Peter Bjorn & John's indie hit "Young Folks."

"Can't Tell Me Nothing," the first single from "Graduation," was co-produced by West and DJ Toomp. A Hype Williams-directed video for the song debuted last Friday on West's Web site.

As previously reported, the new album will also include a collaboration with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin on the song "Graduation."

The Game To Leave The Game?

Is The Game about to step away from the rap game?

The firey Compton rapper claims that his third album will be the last installment of his career as a rapper, in a recent taping for QD3's Beef IV.

The rapper didn't expound on his exodus, but stated that he's achieved what he sought to do in Hip-Hop.

"I think three classic albums are good for me, you know?" The Game said, eventually using the past tense. "I got my point across. I was a prominent figure on the West Coast and a bigger figure in Hip-Hop as a whole. I think I made my impact enough for my name to be said and remembered."

He also credited producer Dr. Dre for helping him achieve his success.

"Dr. Dre, working with him and him molding me and and helping place me among Hip-Hop's elite MC's is good enough for me," he said. "Last album. One more to go."

The Game, born Jayceon Terrell Taylor, has been in a number of high-profile rap beefs and appears to feel the need to relax.

"Right now I'm taking a break from Hip-Hop and enjoying time with my family and my friends," he said.

The Game released The Doctor's Advocate in 2006 and the multi-platinum debut, The Documentary in 2005.

Freekey Zekey Sets Release Date For Solo Debut, 'Book Of Ezekiel'

While serving a three-year jail sentence that ended in November, Diplomat Records President Freekey Zekey spent much of his time contemplating his music career and upon his release, he created Book Of Ezekiel, his solo debut album that will officially be released on July 24.

Book Of Ezekiel will combine Freekey Zekey’s point of views on Hip-Hop, life, and the world with his signature humorous s***s.

"I'm happy to finally show the world what I can do as an artist in my own right," Freekey Zekey explained in a statement. "Book Of Ezekiel is my own story, and the Diplomats family is a big part of my music. I thank the fans who have stood by me through everything, and I am sure they'll feel what I'm bringing on the album."

Fellow Dipset members Cam'ron, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana will make appearances on Book Of Ezekiel as well as Hell Rell, JR Writer, Jha Jha, and Lil’ Wayne.

Freekey Zekey’s first single, “Hater What You Lookin’ At” is unsurprisingly an ode to the Diplomat’s and their stomping ground of Harlem.

Book Of Ezekiel will be released on Diplomat Records/Asylum.

50 Cent, Reps Remain Tightlipped About Earnings From Sale Of Glacéau

50 Cent's involvement in the purchase of Glacéau is blockbuster news in the Hip-Hop community and while neither founders nor the rapper have yet to reveal the financial details, estimates about the rapper's earnings from the deal continue to be a subject of debate.

50 Cent, born Curtis Jackson, invested in Glacéau in 2004 and holds an estimated 10% in the company, according to anonymous sources familiar with the details of the deal.

Glacéau also produces 50 Cent's Formula 50 energy drink.

The Coca-Cola Company acquired Energy Brands on May 25 for $4.1 billion dollars in cash.

The rapper's financial windfall from the sale was estimated to be $400 million, when we broke the news of the purchase of Energy Brands, although an exact dollar amount was never definitively stated.

While 50 Cent's actual income from purchase of Glacéau is unknown, The New York Post reported that New York Mets baseball player David Wright made over $20 million dollars from his 0.5% stake, a figure Wright denied.

Wright, who plays third base for The Mets, denied the figures, but did not elaborate on the amount of money he earned from the sale either.

As details of the sale emerge, a representative for Energy Brands allegedly stated that "any report stating personal figures of ownership in our company are erroneous at this time" and refused to release details of the transaction, which is still subject to regulatory approval.

Chris Lighty, 50 Cent's manager confirmed that the rapper holds equity across the board in the company, though he was not at liberty to comment on the the details of the sale.

"We have a nondisclosure agreement," Lighty told us. "He has equity. I am not telling anyone what we made, but it is very substantial and this was a great deal for everyone."

In related news, 50 Cent will perform one show in London this July, where he will showcase tracks from his upcoming album Curtis, which will hit stores on Sept. 4.

The Game Hit With Felony Charges After L.A. Melee

The Game was charged yesterday (June 4) in Los Angeles with making a criminal threat and possessing a firearm in a school zone. The felony charges against the 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Jayceon Terrell Taylor, stemmed from a fight during a Feb. 24 pickup basketball game in South Los Angeles, the district attorney's office said.

Taylor pulled a gun from his red Cadillac Escalade after punching a player on the opposing team and threatened to shoot him, police said.

The hip-hop star was arrested May 11 at his Glendale home by police executing a search warrant and was released on $50,000 bail. He also is charged with exhibiting a firearm in the presence of an officer.

Taylor was scheduled to be arraigned today in Los Angeles. He faces more than five years in state prison if convicted. His attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Byrd Gang Member Stack Bundles Murdered In New York

Queens, New York rapper and Byrd Gang member Stack Bundles was shot and killed this morning (June 11) in New York.

While details are sketchy, sources affiliated with Stack Bundles told us that the rapper was shot by unknown assailants in front of his home earlier this morning (June 11).

Stack Bundles was from Far Rockaway in Queens, New York.

The last time he was seen alive was at Stereo nightclub, where he and an entourage had an incident-free evening.

Stack Bundles was affiliated with DJ Clue's Desert Storm and later became a member of Jim Jones' Byrd Gang group.

He recorded with a variety of artists, including Fabolous, Lil Wayne, Joe Budden, Max B., Juelz Santana, Jim Jones and others.

Former Bad Boy Artist Chopper Inks Deal With Cash Money Records

New Orleans rapper Chopper has inked a deal with Cash Money/Universal Records, as a result of his discontent at Bad Boy Records.

After a conversation with Cash Money's Bryan "Baby" Williams, Chopper, who also goes by the name of Young City, decided to make the career-altering switch.

"It's just one of those situations where, you know, I wasn't new to [Cash Money/Universal]. I have seen them, grown up around them. I knew who was who," Chopper told us. "And you know, I wasn't comfortable with P. Diddy--even though the album went platinum, 'cause I just couldn't be myself. Then I talked to Baby- he said come over to Cash Money. Thing didn't work out as first--you know how things are. But now I know it was destiny."

Chopper received national attention as a member of Da Band on MTV’s Making The Band 2.

Although Da Band released a hit album in 2003 titled Too Hot For TV that debuted at #2 on Billboard's Top 200 chart and moved over 200,000 copies the first week in stores, the group never realized its full potential.

Eventually, Chopper was signed to Bad Boy South as a solo artist.

Chopper chose to leave Bad Boy after he and his family were affected by Hurricane Katrina and a brief stint in jail, the result of armed robbery charges dating back to September of 2001.

He was eventually sentenced to two years of probation and 100 hours of community service.

"I made a smart move," Chopper told us. "It is a great feeling--a feeling I could only get with working with them. I'm proud to rock with Cash Money--and to get things started, I'm going to Miami on the 20th to work on the Ca$h M.O.E (Ca$h Money Over Everything) album."

Ca$h M.O.E (Cash Money Over Everything) hits stores later this year.

The Game Rejects Plea Deal In Police Flap

West Coast rapper the Game, who was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer last year, rejected a Manhattan prosecutor's offer today (June 13) of a guilty plea for a sentence of time already served.

A guilty plea to the misdemeanor charge in exchange for the time he spent waiting to go to court after he was arrested would have ended the case against the Game, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, his lawyer Jeffrey Lichtman said.

"Why should he plead guilty to bogus charges for a non-jail sentence if he's innocent," Lichtman said outside court. "And he is innocent. It's rare that I have a 100% innocent defendant, but this is one."

The rapper, who refused to speak about the case, was arrested in November 2006 after he told a cab driver that he was an undercover police officer and persuaded him to run a series of red lights, police said after his arrest.

Taylor, 27, of Glendale, Calif., allegedly picked up a livery cab the night of Nov. 16, 2006, shortly after he appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman." The cabbie drove about 13 blocks before he was pulled over, police said at the time.

Lichtman, calling the charges harassment and a "new low" for the police, said outside court, "This case will end in a dismissal or an acquittal." Manhattan Criminal Court Judge James Burke scheduled Taylor's next court appearance for Sept. 20.

Fabolous Cleared Of Weapons Charges

A judge has dismissed illegal weapons charges against Fabolous that put the Brooklyn, N.Y., rapper behind bars for a night last October.

Fabolous, whose real name is John Jackson, was arrested Oct. 17 after he was treated for a minor gunshot wound following a wild night at Justin's, a Manhattan restaurant and club owned by Sean "Diddy" Combs.

A prosecutor said today (June 14) that authorities were unable to prove that Fabolous, 27, or three co-defendants were the owners of two loaded handguns found in a car in which they had ridden. "He's more relieved than happy," the rapper's lawyer, Alberto Ebanks, said. "He should never have been here in the first place."

Trouble at the celebrity-studded nightspot began when someone snatched a $50,000 chain off the neck of then-Boston Celtics point guard Sebastian Telfair. Gunfire later broke out in a parking lot near the restaurant. Fabolous was hit in the right thigh, then escaped the scene with three other men in a Dodge Magnum sport utility vehicle.

While he was being treated at a hospital, police searched the vehicle and found two handguns, a .40 caliber and .380 caliber semiautomatic. Neither gun was registered, and police said the serial number on the .380 had been scratched off.

"There were four guys in the car," Ebanks said. "My client jumped in the back seat of the car after he was shot. It was not the car he came to the club in."

Police In Rockford, IL Cancel DMX Show Over Security Concerns

A June 22 concert in Rockford, Illinois featuring rapper DMX has been canceled, due to security concerns raised by local police.

DMX kicked off a 17-city-tour across the eastern portion of the United States on June 15 to promote his latest release The Definition of X: The Pick of the Litter, a compilation of his greatest hits.

The rapper was supposed to perform at Club Elixur, a venue that is billed as Rockford's largest nightclub.

Police met with the owners of Club Elixur after an article in the Rockford Register Star was printed on June 7, that stated that DMX was expected to sell-out the show.

The owners planned to have 20 security guards stationed around the club for the DMX concert, but the extra security measures were not enough to convince officials that the venue could adequately provide security for its patrons.

“The key is sufficient crowd control,” Rockford City Attorney Jennifer Cacciapaglia told the Rockford Register Star. “If the Mormon Tabernacle Choir were performing, it’s logical to assume you’re not dealing with an adrenaline-charged crowd. But any time you have high-energy performances, you want to make sure everybody inside and out of the venue is safe."

The owners of Elixur agreed that they were not properly prepared for the crowds that would flock to see DMX and promptly canceled the show.

According to DMX's agent Kirk Ceballos, the rapper is looking to replace the canceled date on June 22, with a new appearance in the Chicago area.

Rapper Paperboy Charged With Selling Marijuana

Rapper Paperboy, best known for his platinum 1993 single "Ditty" was arrested on Wednesday evening, after police stopped his car and found $1,200 worth of marijuana.

Paperboy, born Mitchell Johnson, had been under investigation for several weeks according to the Merced Sun-Star.

Merced, California police stopped the rapper around 6:30 pm on Wednesday and a search of his vehicle uncovered the marijuana.

Authorities also obtained a search warrant for his residence, but a sweep of the house with a K9 unit did not produce anything illegal.

Paperboy was arrested and charged with transportation of marijuana for sale, suspicion of possession and sale of marijuana and possession of more than one ounce of marijuana.

His bail is set at $20,000.

Paperboy's million selling single "Ditty" hit #2 on Billboard's 24 chart in 1993.

The song is taken from the rapper's gold-selling album, The Nine Yards.

50 Cent Let Off The Hook In Allen Iverson Assault Case

50 Cent has reportedly been waved from testifying in an upcoming assault trial involving NBA Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson.

According to the Associated Press, Iverson is being sued by two unidentified individuals who claim the hoop star hit one of them with a bottle during a fight between members of Iverson's security and patrons at a downtown Washington bar in 2005.

50 (born Curtis Jackson) was not involved in the fight, but the lawyers of the plaintiffs claim that the G-Unit boss knew some of Iverson's security and could testify at the trial about their behavior.

50's lawyer argued that since he was not involved in the fight and is not named in the lawsuit, he should not be forced to travel from his home in Connecticut to testify. A federal judge agreed with the rapper's position, saying she did not have jurisdiction because he lived more than 100 miles from the court.

Iverson and his entourage are charged with assault, conspiracy and other charges. Their trial begins on June 27.

Jay-Z, 50 Cent & Diddy Make Forbes 'Celebrity 100' List

Forbes recently revealed their annual Celebrity 100 list, naming the most wealthy celebrities of the year and for the first time, the magazine introduced a new category called Hip-Hop Impresarios.

Among the hip-hop alumni who made the list, Jay-Z was the man at the top of the totem pole, ranking in at no. 9 on the Power Rank chart, beating out the likes of Donald Trump, Howard Stern, Kobe Bryant and even Diddy and 50 Cent.

The mag reported that Jay-Z earned a whopping $83 million in 2006, thanks to the sale of his Rocawear clothing line for a reported $204 million to Iconix. Other business ventures in his portfolio includes a small stake in NBA team, the New Jersey Nets, and two locations for this 40/40 nightclubs.

Jay-Z also ranked at no. 7 in Pay Rank.

50 Cent slided in at no. 32, with reported earnings of $33 million from his vast empire that includes a record label, clothing line, books, ringtones and videogames. His stake in Glaceau was also mentioned, but will count toward next year's rankings.

The rapper owned a 10% stake in the company, which was recently bought by Coca-Cola for a reported $4.1 billion, earning the rapper an estimated $100 million in the deal.

50 Cent also ranked at no. 26 in Pay Rank.

Bad Boy Records co-founder, Sean "Diddy" Combs, was positioned at no. 43, as Forbes reported his earnings in 2006 at $23 million, due to his Warner-backed Bad Boy Records, Sean John clothing line and Unforgivable cologne label. He landed at no. 55 in the Pay Rank list.

Others on the list included Will Smith at no. 57 with earnings of $31 million, Kobe Bryant at no. 23 with earnings of $33 million, Shaquille O'Neal at no. 25 with earnings of $32 million, Lebron James at no. 48 with earnings of $27 million, and Tyra Banks at no. 61 with earnings of $18 million among others.

Oprah Winfrey topped the list though with Tiger Woods right behind her. They had reported earnings of $260 million and $100 million respectively.

In addition to taking second, Woods also set a record, becoming the first athlete in history to earn $100 million in one year, thanks in part to a raise given by longtime endorser Nike, according to Forbes.

The power rankings were based on each celebrity's rankings in pay, presence on the web, press and TV.
